ACADEMICS

As we transition from the COVID-19 pandemic, live online education has become a familiar and valuable teaching modality. At TAEJAE, we place a strong emphasis on harnessing the advantages of live online education, which include:

1. Enhanced Flexibility: Online education offers greater flexibility compared to traditional classroom-based courses. This flexibility enables TAEJAE’s students to learn from anywhere around the world, accommodating diverse schedules and lifestyles.

2. Advanced Pedagogy: The online classroom allows us to take advantage of the latest advances in active learning. With the push of a button, for example, students can join small groups to work with peers on challenging problems, to debate, or to participate in role playing games—among many other sorts of activities.

3. Utilization of Educational Data: Online education allows for the collection and analysis of valuable data that can improve teaching and learning, which is challenging to implement in traditional classroom settings. By examining factors such as student engagement, achievement, and progress, we gain valuable insights into learning patterns and trends. Accumulated data enables us to identify individual student needs more effectively and tailor the learning experience accordingly.

In summary, at TAEJAE, we optimize the benefits of online education through flexibility, advanced pedagogy, and the utilization of educational data. By capitalizing on these advantages, we aim to provide a personalized and enriched learning experience for our students.

Active learning encompasses a wide range of educational approaches that prioritize student engagement and place them at the center of learning activities. In this learner-centric approach, students actively engage in critical and creative thinking by participating in hands-on activities, while professors serve as facilitators and collaborators. Professors organize and facilitate meaningful activities that stimulate student learning.

At TAEJAE University, we have structured our classes to incorporate before-class, during-class, and after-class activities that draw on active learning. Students complete before-class activities, actively participate in online live classes, and then follow up with after-class activities. The before-class and after-class activities are conducted within our Learning Management System (LMS), providing a centralized platform for seamless interaction and engagement throughout the learning process. By following this approach, we aim to foster independent thinking and action among students, preparing them to launch successful careers after graduation.

Active learning is a student-centered approach that promotes interactive and collaborative learning. It goes beyond surface-level memorization and comprehension, requiring deep thinking, collaboration, and communication. The sorts of practical knowledge and problem-solving skills our students learn are highly valued in today’s workplaces. Advanced digital technologies support active learning by recording class activities and tracking student progress. Active learning classes foster frequent interaction, collaboration, higher-order thinking, and problem-solving. They require creativity, critical thinking, communication, cooperation, and the use of digital tools, all of which are vital in 21st-century education. TAEJAE University is an innovator in cutting-edge active learning methods, which emphasize student participation and self-directed learning.

TAEJAE lessons follow a structured approach, comprising three key phases: before, during, and after class activities.

Before Class: Prior to the class, students engage in pre-work, including pre-reading materials and various learning activities like polls, quizzes, and quick discussions. This work is intended to orient students so that they can easily understand the material presented in class and participate in active learning exercises. The pre-class activities prepare students for the during-class activities, so it is important to complete them beforehand.

During Class: The during-class phase focuses on short lectures followed by interactive activities, such as collaborative team assignments, team problem-solving, and project work. Active learning methodologies are employed to enhance student engagement, proactivity, and effective knowledge acquisition. Students are expected to actively participate, take responsibility for their own learning, strive to achieve the learning objectives, embrace new ideas and perspectives, and engage in collaborative and constructive discussions, accepting and understanding diverse opinions.

After Class: Following the class session, students engage in detailed, in-depth post-reading materials to reinforce and supplement their learning. These post-class readings deepen the learning that occurred in class and allow students to make connections between concepts. If further assistance is required, students can make use of resources like Office Hours or Teaching Assistants (TAs).

Through this structured approach, TAEJAE University aims to optimize the learning experience by integrating pre-class preparation, active in-class participation, and post-class reflection and reinforcement.

A capstone project is a culminating challenge where students use their knowledge and skills to create innovative solutions for real-world problems in specific industries or society. It integrates theories and foundational knowledge from their first three years of study, drawing on their creativity and practical skills.

Students plan and execute a comprehensive project, taking responsibility for decision-making and resource allocation. Ongoing communication with professors, capstone advisors, and peers enhances their communication and collaboration abilities.

The capstone project empowers students to own the entire project, applying their expertise to devise innovative solutions. It enhances their understanding and equips them with sought-after transferable skills in various professional domains.

TAEJAE University is dedicated to providing students with an exceptional education. In contrast to typical university structures that divide faculty responsibilities between research and teaching, TAEJAE asks faculty to focus solely on teaching. Implementing active learning methods requires more preparation compared to traditional lecture-based classes. Moreover, what sets TAEJAE apart from other institutions is that all faculty members are required to complete a training course before they begin teaching. This course familiarizes them with active learning theories, practices, and online teaching tools, all of which enable effective communication and a student-centered approach. Furthermore, faculty members engage in regular meetings to reflect on their teaching, learn from best practices, and continuously develop their skills. This commitment ensures that students receive a high-quality academic experience for all classes they take.

All students take courses in the Innovation Foundations program during the first year. These courses are designed with a focus on developing key competencies and cultivating foundational skills. Traditional universities typically teach history, philosophy, art, literature, etc. in a fragmented manner, whereas at TAEJAE such courses have been restructured and integrated to create a cohesive program.

TAEJAE University aims to attract talented students from all over the world who possess excellent academic and communication skills along with a strong passion for learning. However, even the most gifted students may require additional support to thrive academically. To ensure their success, TAEJAE University provides various academic support programs designed to assist students in transitioning to college, succeeding in their curriculum, and developing as active learners.

These support programs provide a range of resources, including seminars, guidebooks, tutoring, and more. They are specifically tailored to help students grasp the fundamentals of self-directed learning and acquire the necessary skills for active learning and problem-based learning. By engaging with these programs, students can enhance their academic abilities and successfully navigate their academic journey at TAEJAE University.

If you have questions or require assistance with your studies, TAEJAE University provides opportunities for students to meet with their professors in the online classroom. There are designated 10-minute periods before and after each class where students can connect with their professors for quick discussions. For more personalized one-on-one meetings, students can schedule separate appointments either in the professor’s Metaverse office or on platforms like Zoom. These meetings offer the chance to address questions, seek clarifications, or discuss academic concerns related to the course material. TAEJAE University prioritizes providing support and guidance to students through direct interactions with professors to enhance their learning experience.

TAEJAE University promotes collaborative learning among its students, recognizing the benefits of building a community of learners. This approach cultivates a sense of belonging, fosters connections, and nurtures a collaborative culture that supports students in achieving their academic objectives. Students have the opportunity to organize offline meetings within their dormitories, and they can utilize the online meeting rooms provided through the TAEJAE Learning Management System (LMS) or Engageli.
